The Yellowstone Park Foundation offers three different ways you can support the continuing recovery of wild Yellowstone wolves.

Wolf

General Wolf Project Support
Since the restoration of Yellowstone’s wolves in 1995, the Yellowstone Park Foundation has contributed more than $4 million, constituting 60% of the Wolf Project's total annual budget. Without this support from individuals, we wouldn't be able to learn about the fascinating dynamics of wolves and their role in the Yellowstone ecosystem. A gift of any amount ensures the future of wolf research in Yellowstone National Park.

Wolf Education and Outreach
Nearly one-third of the 3.3 million Park visitors come to Yellowstone to see wolves. Many are fortunate to have a chance to meet and speak with Rick McIntyre, the wolf project liaison in the field. Rick is in in the Park every day meeting with visitors and school groups, providing an opportunity to observe wolves and enhancing their appreciation for the role of wolves in the Park. Your gift to the Wolf Education Program directly supports Rick’s field work, sharing his knowledge and appreciation of these amazing animals.

Sponsor a VHF or GPS collar
These collars are critical to wolf research and are invaluable in monitoring wolves that travel great distances, often in rugged terrain. Collars help researchers follow wolf movements, learn more about behavior, and study how wolves impact Yellowstone's elk, deer and bison populations. Each collar has a unique frequency, so researchers can track an individual wolf. The expenses for aircraft, veterinary time, Wolf Project staff, tracking equipment, monitoring, and extensive data analysis by researchers quickly add up.

For a gift of $2,500 for a VHF collar or $5,000 for a GPS collar, we will notify you when your collar has been successfully fitted to a particular wolf and send you a photograph of the wolf, if available. We will also send you the Wolf Project's Annual Report and if the collar can be retrieved after it is no longer in use, it will be mailed to you.

Contribute to a Community-Supported Wolf Collar
With a donation of $50 or greater, you may join a group of fellow Wolf Project supporters in sponsoring a VHF or GPS wolf collar. Once a community collar is placed on a Yellowstone wolf, we will email you an update. We’ll also send you a notice when the Wolf Project's Annual Report is available online.

UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who generously sponsored wolf collars for Winter 2013.  We are currently accepting contributions towards the Yellowstone Wolf Project or Yellowstone Wolf Education Program - both are important ways for supporting the Yellowstone Wolf Project and its public outreach program.
